High on energy and imagination, this ode to self-esteem encourages kids to appreciate everything about themselves—inside and out. Messy hair? Beaver breath? So what! Here's a little girl who knows what really matters. At once silly and serious, Karen Beaumont's joyous rhyming text and David Catrow's wild illustrations unite in a book that is sassy, soulful . . . and straight from the heart. The sturdy board book is just right for little hands.
I Like Myself is a great book for individual sessions with students or a small group based on boosting students' self-esteem. I used this book with a student who started wearing a mask because she didn't like the way her lips looked. We read the book together and followed up with the fun activity below. The next day I stopped by her classroom to see how she was doing. The mask was gone and she gave me the biggest hug. I will never forget the huge impact this activity had on this student.
I also ran a 2nd-grade Friendship Group and used the lesson below as an activity. The conversations were endless regarding things that they didn't like about themselves. I was able to help them see how beautiful and unique they were in their own way.
Let's just say this is the best $8 dollars I've spent on a book.
Check Out the video below explaining the activity
