Journaling is a fantastic coping skill for upper elementary kids, tweens, and teens. Sometimes, you give a kid a notebook, and whatever is on their mind comes pouring onto the page. But other kids may need more structure to get going with journaling. I wanted to share a few questions/prompts that I encourage my clients to use: 🔹 How are you feeling? 🔹 In an ideal world, what do you wish happened? 🔹 In a perfect world, what would things be like? 🔹 What can I control in this situation? 🔹 What can I let go of? 🔹 How can I make it better? And I always like to wrap up with:

🔸 I'm grateful for....

or

🔸 I'm looking forward to...

Because gratitude is powerful, and the more you do it, the easier it becomes. Writing it down can be helpful, too, because, on incredibly challenging days, you can go back and read them and still see the good, even when things are rougher.
